A young mom dumped her newborn son under a tree just minutes after giving birth alone in her boyfriend's basement.
Kaitlin Norton, 21, confessed to abandoning the blanket-wrapped baby under a pine tree in Ellisville, Mo. on a freezing cold February morning last year.
He was found soon after by shocked walker Betty Crowder — who initially thought the package contained puppies.
Taken to a hospital, he was revealed to be cold, but not seriously injured.
Norton, who hid her pregnancy from her college student boyfriend, was arrested several days later after turning herself in.
She pleaded guilty on Monday to a felony charge of child endangerment at St. Louis County Circuit Court.
"She couldn't face the problem up through the moment that she delivered the child, alone, in a basement laundry room," said her lawyer Andrew Leonard.
Norton will be sentenced in July.
The incident comes more than a decade after Missouri passed the Safe Place for Newborns Act.
The law allows women, unable to cope, to hand babies under 12 months old to medics or firefighters.
