A BULAWAYO man brutally assaulted his wife leaving her with a swollen eye when she tried to seek answers from him on why he decided to end their marriage, a magistrate heard.
Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso heard how on November 16, Stanley Masuku, 43, of Pumula South, angered by his wife, Sikhathele Mpofu who wanted to know why he was terminating their marriage, brutally punched her.
Prosecuting, Tony Kamudyariwa, told the court that on November 16 at about 3pm, Masuku told his wife that he was no longer interested in her before he ordered her to pack her belongings and leave their matrimonial home.
However, the court was told that when Mpofu asked her husband why he was kicking her out of their home, the question appeared to have worsened his anger as Masuku responded by punching her in the face several times.
"Ms Mpofu asked her husband why he was chasing her out of their home and without saying a word, he fluttered with anger and punched the complainant in the face several times and she sustained a swollen face," said Kamudyariwa.
As the punches continued to rain in her face, Mpofu had no choice but to flee to the police station and reported the matter leading to Mr Masuku's arrest.
According to a medical report, Ms Mpofu sustained a swollen left eye and facial bruises as a result of the attack.
Masuku was convicted on his own plea of guilty to assault charges.
He was fined $200 or two months in jail.
