Two warders were injured during a hostage situation at a prison in South Africa.
Although the staff of Mangaung Prison didn't want to comment, a reliable source told Daily Sun five inmates involved in the hostage drama demanded a cellphone and asked for a national commissioner to speak to them.
"Two new staff members were stabbed and a woman was taken hostage at about 11am. The stabbing victims managed to run away but the woman was captured. She was training new members," said the source.
The incident came after more than 300 staff members were fired following a protest in which they claimed they were not safe at the prison.
Prison spokeswoman Kristen van der Nest said: "We can confirm we are dealing with a hostage situation. Pre-determined measures have been implemented designed to deal with situations of this nature."
By late Wednesday, a special task force team had arrived at the prison.
