Love for “hot stuff” lands man in prison

GWERU - A 23-YEAR-OLD Gweru man who stole two bottles of whisky, cash and a till machine at a bowling club will spend the next 51 months in jail after he was convicted on charges of unlawful entry, theft and attempting to escape from law enforcement agents.

Charles Dumba of Greenvale plots on January 11 this year went to the bowling club where he forcibly gained entry and stole $72, two 750ml bottles of Jack Daniels and Strawberry Lips respectively and a till machine.

Dumba was arrested on the same day after a tip-off from members of the public.

When he led detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department to his place of residence the following day, Dumba attempted to escape, but was caught.

Magistrate Judith Taruvinga sentenced Dumba to 18 months for unlawful entry, and 18 months for theft, of which three months were suspended on condition he pays $122 restitution to the complainant by March 30 this year.

Taruvinga further slapped him with 12 months for attempting to escape from lawful custody with another six months added from a previous conviction in 2014.

The value of the stolen property was $122 and only $50 was recovered
