A prisoner convicted to two years in jail and serving at Khami Medium Detention Center,in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, escaped after fooling prison officers on duty into believing that he wanted to relieve himself.
Munashe Zaba however found himself in the dock before Western Commonage Magistrate, Richard Ramaboea for trying to escape.
He was handed five months sentence on top of the original two year imprisonment term.
It is said that on a date not known to the court, Zaba was delegated to do ground work with other two inmates within the camp.
It seemed the three were working well and prison officers relaxed in keeping a close eye on them.
Zaba took advantage of this and asked for permission to go to the loo and the prison officer allowed him to go.
Zaba took the opportunity and disappeared from the detention centre.
After an hour, the officer on duty became worried and 'followed' Zaba to the toilets but was shocked when he failed to locate him.
Realising that the inmate has escaped, he reported the matter to prison authorities who later made a report at Pumula Police station.
Zaba's freedom was curtailed again when he was spotted at a beer spot in Nkulumane and sent back to prison.
