Cape Town - A Grade 11 Cape Town pupil was stabbed to death on a school bus, the
Cape Times reported on Wednesday.
An 18-year-old, also believed to be a pupil, was arrested on a charge of murder after the stabbing on Tuesday morning.
Western Cape education department spokesperson Paddy Attwell said Uviwe Mzingelwa, 17, a pupil at Ned Doman High in Athlone, was involved in a fight with other passengers. He died on the scene.
The fight started at 07:30 as the bus was moving to Gugulethu.
Golden Arrow spokesperson Bronwyn Dyke said the fight between pupils already started on Monday.
"According to reports we have received this started a while ago. It flared up [on Monday] when the deceased and another learner got into a fight. The deceased pulled a pair of scissors on another learner and stabbed him in the finger."
Dyke said the fight continued on Tuesday and Mzingelwa again pulled out his scissors when approached by two pupils. The pair retaliated with a pair of scissors and stabbed Mzingelwa in the heart.
