A hearing and speech-impaired teenage girl who went missing from Indore, India on December 30 last year was allegedly abducted and sold for Rs 75,000 (US$ 1300) to a young grocery trader in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh.
A team of Indore Police raided Rignia village in Ratlam and rescued the girl. Cops also arrested the grocery trader Bhawani Shankar on Friday night.
A case of abduction has been registered at the Khajrana police station of Indore against unidentified persons, while a case of rape has been registered against the Bhawani Shankar.
"During interrogation, Bhawani revealed that the girl was handed over to him by some youths who had abducted her from Indore.
The youths handed the girl to him for Rs 75,000, after which he had kept her with him as wife," the Khajrana TI said.
The police are now trying to get hold of the abductors.
A missing complaint was then registered by the girl's family at the Khajrana police station.
The grocery trader Bhawani Shankar, 25, and the girl were brought to Indore on Friday night.
The role of the girl's parents in the entire episode is also under scanner, but the girl's speech and hearing impairment is turning a major impediment in the investigations.
