HOUSTON, US - A 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself with his father's gun in north Houston early Sunday morning, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Jaiden Pratt, 4-years-old, was spending a weekend with his father Marquiez Pratt, 21, when he discovered a nearby handgun and shot himself in the stomach.
By the time emergency personnel arrived on the scene, however, Jaiden was already dead from the gunshot wound.
The police department received the call about the shooting around 8:15 a.m. and responded.
According to witnesses Pratt ran out of his home with his bleeding son as he yelled to neighbors for help.
Sgt. Brian Harris of the Houston Police department was one of the officers dispatched to the scene.
According to the authorities, the serial number on the handgun that killed Jaiden is registered as stolen.
The semi-automatic pistol was allegedly part of a 2011 robbery.
In addition to the stolen weapon, drugs were also found on the scene.
'This is not a case of a responsible homeowner having a weapon for protection.'
Currently Pratt faces numerous charges including endangering a child.
In the state of Texas, making a firearm accessible to a minor which results in death cannot be charged until seven days after that minor is buried.
The District Attorney's office is currently weighing whether or not to add that to Pratt's charges
