A gunman who shot two people on Christmas Eve at a terminus popularly known as Egodini in Bulawayo while fleeing an angry mob has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Thokozani Zulu, 39, together with two accomplices who escaped, robbed a shopkeeper of more than $300 at gunpoint along Lobengula Street.
Zulu shot a woman, Tonsia Ngwenya, on the leg after she could not get out of his way fast enough. He also shot a conductor, Emmanuel Chirodzero, on the hand for baring him entry into a kombi.
The gunman was met with mob justice from the angry Egodini mob before being rescued by police who recovered a Noringo Star Pistol and live rounds at the site.
Zulu pleaded guilty to robbery, attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm and was sentenced to 23 years behind bars.
