A 39-year-old man from Waterfalls, Harare has been jailed for three months after he attacked his son-in-law using a wire brush for refusing to pay lobola (Bride price).
Apparently on 13 February, a day before Valentine's Day,
Charles proceeded to Douglas' place of residence where he made the demands.
Charles Chihota was convicted of assault when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Precious Muzondo.
The age of the woman in question could not be established, though according to reports, she is very much likely to be in her early 20s.
Prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe told the court that Douglas advised his father-in-law that he did not have the money for lobola.
Irked by the response, Chihota became violent and assaulted his son in-law saying that failure to pay would get him a beating.
Charles used a wire brush and struck him on the head before he was restrained by neighbours.
Due to the attack, Douglas sustained a deep cut on his forehead. He then made a police report leading to his father-in-law's arrest.
