AN African Apostolic Church member died on Monday, while four others sustained injuries after they were struck by a lightning bolt during a prayer session at an open space in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza.
Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident to a local newspaper and urged people to take precautionary measures to avoid fatalities or injuries when it is raining.
On January 25 around 6:30pm when members of African Apostolic Church (Mwazha) gathered at an open space in the Nyatsime area for a prayer session,the congregation was struck by lightning.
Five people sustained burns and were ferried to Chitungwiza Central Hospital, where one was pronounced dead upon arrival. The other three are in a stable condition, while the fourth is critical.
