Motorists have expressed frustration at the “bus terminus”.
They described the place as hazardous and said driving past had now become dangerous.
“This place is very dangerous for all of us. It is always busy and driving past it had now become a nightmare.
“We appeal to the Bulawayo City Council to intervene and take action immediately before it’s too late,” one motorist said.
Another motorist said they were forced to drive in the oncoming traffic lane because of buses and kombis dropping off passengers at the point.
“Those buses are causing havoc at this place and if the city fathers fail to address the anomaly, we will soon have fatal accidents in this area.
“Sometimes the buses offload on the right side of the road in oncoming traffic posing danger to pedestrians, motorists and cyclists,” another motorist said.
The area is a bus stop for kombis, but long-distance buses plying the Victoria Falls, Hwange, Chitekete and Gokwe routes have turned it into a mini bus terminus. Council usually clamps the buses, but that does not work because they just pay fines and return to rank at the same area again.
Bulawayo mayor Martin Moyo said they were in the process of implementing a transport policy that would address this existing anomaly.
“It is illegal and those practicing it should be prosecuted. At the moment we are in the process of implementing a transport policy that will address this anomaly.
“We want to first consult the transport operators and then we will determine the requirements. The fines are not deterrent enough and this is the reason why they keep on breaking the rules.” Moyo added.
