NORWAY-based songbird Busi Ncube has lined up a charity show at Bulawayo’s Amakhosi Cultural Centre where she cut her teeth in the music industry in the 1980s.

The charity show is slated for Sunday at 4pm. The revered singer, who jetted into the city to attend her sister’s funeral, said she had already planned to do something for the centre which helped her make a name in the showbiz industry.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, the True Love hitmaker said the show was a way showing appreciation and support for the centre.

“I started from here back in the day in the 80s and a lot has changed and I feel obliged to give back to the centre. There are a number of successful artistes and productions that have been produced by this centre,” she said.

Ncube is regarded as one of the best female vocalists in the country and rose to stardom with the 90s group Ilanga. The legendary Ilanga was made up of the late Andy Brown, Don Gumbo, Adam Chisvo, Keith Farquharson, Virgillio Ignacio, Charles Mangena and Gibson Nyoni.

The band was one of the most popular musical outfits during that era before it disbanded with the artistes deciding to go solo.

After she split from Ilanga, Busi teamed up with Roger Mbambo to form the band Rain.

The group was planning a re-union but the plans fell flat as some of the original members Gumbo, Chisvo and Brown have passed on.

Ncube has released a single titled Bulawayo which will be sold on Sunday with all the proceeds going to Amakhosi Centre.

She urged music fans to come in their numbers to support their “own artiste.”

“This is a chance for all the people who have not seen Busi in action for a very long time. I will be performing tracks from back in the day, even from Ilanga,” she said.

Besides being a musician, Ncube is also a music teacher in Norway. Asked on whether she has plans of relocating to Zimbabwe permanently, she said.

“If finances improve here, why not?”
