Police in Bulawayo have arrested a con woman for allegedly misrepresenting to her three relatives whom she defrauded of money, cattle and a plot.
Emilia Sibanda (46) of 22 Pingstone Road, Khumalo is facing three charges of fraud.
She was not asked to plead yesterday and granted $200 bail on each of the three charges by Bulawayo magistrate Ms Gladmore Mushove.
Sibanda will be back in court on Tuesday.
On the first charge, Sibanda is being accused of misrepresenting to her cousin Mr John Tafara Mpofu in Masvingo resulting in him losing a plot worth $43 000.
This was after Sibanda allegedly fraudulently used Title Deeds to Mr Mpofu's plot to get a loan for $22 000 from Agribank and the bank later attached and sold the plot, situated in Morningside, Masvingo when she failed to pay.
The court was told that she visited Mr Mpofu on 2 October 2010 and misrepresented that she had come to take his father Collins Darikai Mpofu, now late to hospital in Bulawayo.
It is alleged that Sibanda clandestinely took the Title Deeds and used the late Mpofu's name as guarantor resulting in the bank selling the plot to recover its money when she defaulted.
The plot was valued at $43 000.
Sibanda also allegedly went on to defraud two other relatives from Gokwe purporting that she would buy them cars and duped them a combined $6 000 and two beasts.
She allegedly went to her son-in-law Mr Abeauty Chinorira who is a transport operator in Mtora, Gokwe on 17 November last year and misrepresented that she had bought a commuter omnibus for his brother and wanted $4 000 to pay for it at the border.
The court heard that she was given the money.
Sibanda was latter allegedly given $2 000 and two beasts by Mr Mike Katonho of Chief Nemangwe who wanted to buy a car and she offered to sell him a pick-up for $4 000.
After committing the alleged offences, Sibanda went away until the complainants made reports to the police.
She was arrested in Harare last week following investigations by the police.
Miss Tafadzva Mutsambiwa is representing the State while Mr Jonathan Tsvangirai of Dube-Tachiona and Tsvangirai Legal Practitioners is representing Sibanda.
