A Gweru woman was yesterday arraigned before the courts facing 21 counts of fraud after she allegedly took broilers worth $13 000 from different people in and around the city promising to sell the birds on their behalf.
The suspect, Prined Zimbindi of Mkoba Village Six would then sell the broilers before converting the money from the sales into her own use.
She pleaded not guilty to fraud when she appeared before Magistrate Ms Sithembiso Ncube who then remanded her in custody to Monday next week for continuation of trial.
For the State, Ms Helen Khosa told the court that between April and August this year, Zimbindi approached various people around Gweru who were running poultry projects.
Ms Khosa said Zimbindi would then take different numbers of chicken from her victims after promising them that she would sell the chickens to various institutions including Midlands State University and Unki Mines.
Zimbindi would then sell the chickens before converting the money realised to her own use.
The matter was later reported to the police leading to the arrest of Zimbindi.
The value of the stolen chickens was $13 000 and nothing was recovered.
