Boy shoots friend then turns gun on himself

A 13-year-old boy accidentally shot his friend in the head then, in terror, he held the gun to his own head and killed himself while a seven- year-old boy, the younger brother of one of the victims watched.
Kingslord Mhlongo (11) and his friend Vutiri Mashabane (13) found the firearm in the house on Friday afternoon in Ludlow Village in the Greater Manyeleti area, Mpumalanga, SA.
The owner of the firearm, a boyfriend of one of the boys' mother, has been arrested.
The boys had been sent by Vutiri's mother, Goodness Mashabane (41) to push her fruit and vegetables home in a wheelbarrow.
It seemed Vutiri knew where his mother's lover kept his gun, and went to fetch it.
They began fiddling with the pistol and it went off, hitting Kingslord.
Captain Nelson Khoza said a 63-year-old man has been arrested and will appear in the Mhala Magistrates Court on a charge of negligence with a firearm.
