Polygamous man ordered to maintain own wife

A Polygamous man from Nketa suburb in Zimbabwe was ordered by the court to maintain his own wife.
This was after the wife, Phumuzile Mlalazi approached the court claiming her husband has forgone his fatherly duties and is now spoiling his other two wives and their children.
Mlalazi is the third wife of Vumani Ndlovu who works as a gold panner. Ndlovu who was accompanied by his first wife Eunice Dlamini was ordered to pay monthly maintenance of $50 by Bulawayo magistrate Ms Charity Maphosa.
The amount was contrary to the $60 Ndlovu had volunteered to give his wife and their one year old child in an out of court settlement they had arranged earlier.
Approaching the courts, Mlalazi was claiming $175 maintenance per month.
She told the court that Ndlovu had abandoned her and the child yet he could spoil the other wives and children.
In his defence, Ndlovu said he has five children with the two other wives and was earning $300 per month.
The first wife came into court as a witness saying they invited Mlalazi for an out of court settlement and offered to give her $60 per month but she refused.
