A grieving family was shocked when a woman claiming to be the dead man's second wife arrived with a marriage certificate to claim his corpse.
Family members came all the way from the Eastern Cape and Gauteng for the burial in Nyanga, Western Cape, SA.
The family of Solomzi Ntando (42) said they knew he was dating a woman called Nomkhitha Nondzaba, but they were only lovers, because lobola (bride price) negotiations never took place.
Funani Phatho (74) said they were shocked when three men arrived just days before the funeral while the Ntando family was holding a prayer service.
Funani told Daily Sun:"One of the men told me he was the father of a woman who said she was married to my son.
"They produced a marriage certificate.
"I told them there were no lobola negotiations between the two families.
"I was shocked but we allowed this woman to bury our son because she threatened to call the police and stop the funeral."
Funani said his son got married to Nolusapho Ntando (41) in 2005 and they had two children before getting divorced in 2009.
Phumza Ntando (25) said when they went to dress her uncle's corpse, they discovered that his secret wife had already done so.
"We had absolutely no role to play," she said.
"The funeral was undignified."
