Duduzile Zozo (26), who was allegedly killed because she was a lesbian, was buried on Saturday.
Speaker after speaker at the funeral service, held at the church hall in Thokoza, Ekurhuleni, SA, condemned the killing of lesbian and gay people.
Dudu's body was found near her home in Thokoza.
Dudu's best friend and neighbour, Mphikeleni Miya, said he had lost a special person in his life.
Mphikeleni (25) said: "Dudu played soccer with the boys. We never discriminated against her because of her sexuality, but we welcomed her.
"She never deserved to be killed like this," Mphikeleni said.
Xolile Dzanibe (51) of Ekurhuleni Pride Organising Committee, said a number of young lesbian women had been raped and even murdered in the area.
"The killing of lesbians seems to have become a campaign by homophobic men," Xolile said.
He said their organisation will meet with the cops at the Thokoza Police Station today.
"We want the cops to brief us on the latest in Dudu's case," said Xolile.
Lindiwe Khonjelwayo of the ANC Women's League said it was sad that no suspects had been arrested in connection with Dudu's death.
"Whoever has information about the perpetrators should contact the cops," she said.
Dudu was buried at the Grootvlei.
