A 16 year old Beitbridge juvenile allegedly raped a 55-year-old woman.
The teen from Lutotombi village in Zimbabwe was not asked to plead to rape when he appeared before magistrate Mr James Takundwa.
The juvenile, was remanded in custody to 27 July pending medical examination by two doctors to ascertain his mental condition.
The prosecutor said that on 18 June at around 6pm, the complainant was on her way home to Lutomboni when she was approached by the juvenile coming from the opposite direction.
The accused reportedly initially acted as if he wanted to ask something from the complainant but then grabbed the complainant by the hand and pulled her to the side of the road.
The boy wrestled with the old woman until he overpowered and raped her before fleeing from the scene.
The woman proceeded home where she narrated her ordeal to her son-in-law who in turn alerted the police leading to the juvenile’s arrest.
The complainant was referred to Beitbridge District hospital for medical examination and the medical report was produced in court.
The juvenile was not asked to plead and the prosecutor applied for authority to have the juvenile examined by two doctors from public hospitals as the accused is reported to have a history of mental illness.
