39-year-old Cedric Shezi has been released from prison after nine years after being apparently falsely accused of rape.
The accusation in 2003 was from his daughter Pinky (18) who wept at his release and asked for his forgiveness. wept as she said: "Please forgive me, dad."
Cedric (39), of Umlazi, south of Durban, was convicted and sentenced to two life sentences in 2005 for allegedly raping Pinky.
But after Pinky admitted in 2009 that her allegations were false, it was a battle to get him out of jail.
As he took his first steps to freedom yesterday, Cedric told Daily Sun he still could not believe he was finally free.
"Life inside wasn't easy. I lost a tooth when I was beaten and was forced to join gangsters inside to survive.
"I don't hold any grudges against my child. She was young and was fed the lies that she told in court," he said.
Cedric said he was going to wash off his bad luck in the sea, in line with his traditional beliefs.
Years after her dad's arrest, Pinky admitted that her mum, Zanele Dube, forced her to falsely accuse her dad.
Zanele died in 2007.
Pinky said: "My father had an argument with my mother in 2003. The next day my mum took me to social workers and told me to tell them he had raped me four times.
"Luckily my father is not holding a grudge. He has been calling us from prison all the time to remind us he loved us, no matter what happened."
Family member Khumbuzile Shezi (52) said: "I blame our justice system for not doing thorough investigations. Cedric lost his job, his life was ruined and he lost the time he should have spent with his family."
Cedric's lawyer, Lindokuhle Mdletshe, told Daily Sun: "Pinky was just a child. She was used by her mother."
