A 56-year-old California man has been arrested for calling the emergency hotline more than 100 times in about a month police say.
Jimmy Shao told KTXL-TV that it's the federal government's fault. He says the government is sending satellite signals that cause him severe pain and anguish.
"They squeeze my brain, they press my stomach, they stir my intestines," Shao told the TV station.
o persistent was Shao that police arrested him for tying up precious resources for what they see as a false emergency. While dispatch centers frequently get absurd calls for help, Shao's calls, some lasting five to seven minutes, take the cake, police said.
"He was told to stop making those calls and to use non-emergency lines and he refused to do so," Sacramento Police Officer Michele Gigante said.
"He was annoying and harassing dispatchers," Gigante added.
Shao, who keeps his very own log book of all the times he's called the line, says it's the feds, maybe the CIA itself, that is harassing him with its insistent satellite pings.
Shao admits he may sound crazy, but claims he visited a psychiatrist at his ex-wife's behest and was given a clean bill of mental health.
And even his arrest couldn't deter him — Shao says he's called 911 three times since bailing out.
"911 is probably the only place where I can reach for public help to rescue me from the satellite control," he said.
But police say that's not the case — if he keeps calling, he'll end up back in the slammer.
"It can be very frustrating for a dispatcher because, for us, 911 is that lifeline," said Jena Swafford, Sacramento's 911 dispatch supervisor. "It's our number one priority."
