A female police officer stationed at Bulawayo Provincial Headquarters' Operations department has been caught behind enemy lines following her arrest over allegations of ill-treating her fellow workmate's 11-year-old daughter.
Nomsa Moyo (34) is accused of pouring cold water mixed with crumbs of isitshwala and orange pearls on Sheba Giwa's blankets while she was sleeping.
As if that was not enough during the absence of the girl's mother Yongiso Mahambaze, Moyo is also accused of locking her and her siblings inside the house leaving them without access to the toilet.
Moyo and Sheba's mother Mahambaze who is also a police stationed at Bulawayo Central and attached to Anti-stock theft section stay at the same house at Rosscamp. The matter of the alleged abuse was heard at the Bulawayo court where Moyo was being charged with physical as defined in section 3 (1) (a) of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.
It was the State case that on an unknown date but some time in September this year Moyo acting against the principles of her profession as a police officer and over a yet to be established reason ill-treated her workmate's daughter by allegedly pouring cold water mixed with crumps of isitshwala and orange pearls on her blankets while she was sleeping with her siblings.
The court further heard that on 28 September when Mahambaze left home for work Moyo allegedly locked Sheba and her siblings inside the house for over two hours. On the following day and using the same modus operandi of "fixing" Mahambadze she locked the main door while her children were inside.
The children reportedly spent the whole day holed in their mother's bedroom without having access to the toilet. It is alleged that they were later rescued by their mother when she came back from work at around 6 pm.
When Mahambaze confronted Moyo asking her why she had locked her children inside the house without having access to the toilet, the later became angry and threatened to assault her. She later pushed her away.
This did not go down well with Mahambadze who went and reported the matter at Mzilikazi Police Station.
For the offence Moyo was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to 14 November on free bail.
