Aided by peers’ diversion, a bully attacked another Denver middle school student as spectators filmed the incident and cheered the attacker saying: ‘Get her!’
The unidentified 14-year-old victim at Henry World School said, ‘I felt like I didn’t want to live anymore.’
She continues to be threatened on Facebook and in text messages.
On March 8, the 14-year-old girl was aggressively attacked by another 14-year-old girl in the classroom of Denver’s Henry World School as some students took video on their phones.
“I turned around because I didn’t want to fight her, and she grabbed me by my hair,” the victim, who requested not to be identified, told KDVR.
The girl was assaulted, knocked to the floor and punched repeatedly. In the video, she is still wearing her backpack, with no time to put it down before she is jumped.
The school told KDVR that this attack had clearly been planned.
Dozens of students created a diversion in the hallway to distract the teacher.
The attacker then came in along with a group of other students and started bashing the victim.
In the raw video, spectators can be heard cheering on the attacker, with some yelling, “Get her!”
The mother of the victim said in an interview with KDVR that she heard about the incident from another parent instead of the school.
The bullying started about a month ago, the girl said.
The other girl had been shoving her in the halls and trying to push her to fight.
The victim said she asked teachers for help multiple times.
School officials sent a letter to parents on Tuesday informing them about the incident and noting the the safety of the students and staff "is a top priority." They also pointed students towards their "Bully
"The Bully Box acts as an anonymous means for students to alert adults of conflicts that are occurring and need to be investigated and attended to," the letter from principal Dackri Davis said.
Kristy Armstrong, a spokeswoman for Denver Public Schools, said in an emailed statement that they are working with the school and security officials "to investigate last week’s bullying and fighting incident at the school and the alleged threats that took place on social media by other students."
"Several other students are facing disciplinary action in connection with the fight and threatening posts.
Students who engage in this type of behaviour and activity will face serious consequences. Bullying and any threatening behaviour associated with bullying will not be tolerated at our schools," Armstrong said.
