Aice Lumumba, former Zanu-PF stalwart who was wanted by the law for insulting President Robert Mugabe with the F-word handed himself over to the police and is set for trial today.
Lumumba, faces charges of undermining the President as defined in Section 33 (2) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Lumumba, who was in the company of lawyers, surrendered himself at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Law and Order Section yesterday afternoon.
A source close to the investigations said Lumumba was yesterday still assisting with investigations and is expected to appear in court today.
Last week, Lumumba launched a new political party called Viva Zimbabwe which he said was aimed at bringing about change in Zimbabwe.
“Mr Mugabe, I guess you have not been really insulted,’ said Lumumba. “You are now used to being insulted by protesters. You are used to being insulted by vendors, you are used to being insulted in the hallways.
“You have never seen Zimbabweans really angry. So, here is the red line. Mr President Robert Gabriel Mugabe f*** you.”
Lumumba, while addressing supporters, said although he was leader of Viva Zimbabwe, he was not going to contest the 2018 Presidential elections saying he would support any candidate he considered to be appropriate for the post.
