Cop Hit At Roadblock By Pirate Taxi

A pirate taxi driver allegedly ran over a female police officer from Lalapanzi at a roadblock in an attempt to evade paying a fine on Easter Monday.
Brian Bepe, 31, from Gweru allegedly sped from the scene where he had mauled Constable Esline Matarirano by his vehicle before bypassing a tollgate between Mvuma and Gweru in a bid to escape arrest.
Bepe was arrested at a roadblock near Thornhill Airbase in Gweru.
Bepe appeared on initial remand in court,facing one count of attempted murder and was remanded out of custody on $100 bail to April 13.
The extent of Cst Matarirano's injuries were not disclosed in court.
