Man resigns in spectacular style

While some people leave their jobs because they become tired of fat cats getting all the cream, an ingenious Border Force agency has decided to let them have their cake and eat by sending his bosses a resignation dessert.
Chris Holmes had grown so tired of the 9 to 5 slog at Stansted airport that he decided to quit in spectacular fashion, celebrating his 31st birthday and new-found freedom in style.
In impeccably piped lettering he wrote: 'Today is my 31st birthday, and having recently become a father I now realise how precious life is and how important it is to spend my time doing something that makes me, and other people, happy.
'For that reason I hereby give notice of my resignation, in order that I may devote my time and energy to my family, and to my cake business which has grown steadily over the past few years.
'I wish the organisation and my colleagues the best for the future.'
The pastry expert of Sawston, Cambridgeshire, signs off his resignation cake with a shameless plug for his burgeoning business, which he began when he made his own wedding cake in 2010.
On the Mr Cake website, Mr Holmes tells how he began his career in cuisine as a pot washer in Cambridge, 11 years ago, eventually working his way up to a role in Gordon Ramsay's kitchen in London.
His last full-time job in the catering business, he says, was in the pastry section at the Michelin-starred Midsummer House in Cambridge.
However, the call of the cooker has clearly grown too loud for him to ignore and judging by the reaction his cake has whipped up on Twitter, his resignation couldn't have come a day too soon.
Mr Holmes isn't the first employee to quit his job in such a tasty way though.
In 2009, W Neil Berrett gave his bosses at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard an A3-sized cake, telling them of how his three-year tenure had been 'nothing short of pure excitement, joy and whim'.
