72-year-old man abused granddaughter and used her blood for rituals

A 72-YEAR old man from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe raped his grand-daughter, now 8, for more than a year and collected her blood for suspected ritual purposes.
The attacks are said to have occurred while the mother, who is a prostitute was out clubbing.
Recounting the horrific abuse when the trial opened at the Bulawayo magistrate's courts on Friday, the girl said the attacks took place between 2011 and last year.
She said she once reported the abuse to her mother but was not taken seriously.
The grandfather, who lives Green Hill suburb but cannot be named to protect the child's identity, denied the charges.
He told the court that he had, in fact, taken "good care" of the child and was also responsible for paying her school fees.
The girl, now in grade two, however retorted: "Yes you did good things for me but I hate you. I do not want to live with a liar again."
Prosecutors said the abuse was only discovered when the girl visited her maternal grandmother at Ngezi, near Kadoma, who noticed that she almost always cried in pain when relieving herself.
She was taken to hospital where medical tests confirmed the abuse.
The trial continues on Tuesday.
