A group of Indian students have developed an electric bra to protect would-be rape victims.
The potentially lethal item of lingerie is designed to give any attacker a 3,800kv electric shock.
The multi-function bra can also send text messages to a friend and the local police station, and even send out the GPS coordinates of the victim's location.
Manisha Mohan, an aeronautical engineering student in the Indian city of Chennai, developed the garment after the brutal gang rape of a 23-year-old student in Delhi in December which sent shock waves around the country.
Together with fellow students Niladhri Basu Bal and Rimpi Tripathi, she decided put her technical skills to good use and do something to help protect women like her.
The SHE (Society Harnessing Equipment) is fitted with a pressure sensor connected to an electric circuit which can generate the shock.
But Ms Mohan insists the victim will not be on the receiving end of a jolt themselves.
Ms Mohan and her team are working to make their anti-rape lingerie more practical and less bulky.
They also want to use Bluetooth technology to link the bra to a smartphone app, and they hope to eventually put the bra on sale.
It is a work in progress, they said, but if all goes well they would like to start selling the bra.
'My vision is to see every women walking confidently on the streets in all parts of the world, even at odd hours,' she said.
'I aim to give a sense of self-security to women living in the rural areas too.'
