South African lawyers will be in a London court later on Thursday for the latest step to extradite honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani, The EWN reports.
They will be hoping to convince a judge that the British businessman is now mentally fit and healthy enough for extradition proceedings to begin in earnest.
Dewani is accused of orchestrating the murder of his new wife Anni while on honeymoon in Cape Town in November 2010.
Dewani isn’t expected to attend the proceedings, but his defence team will tell the court of his current condition.
In February it was reported Dewani had been admitted to hospital after his health had seriously deteriorated.
He was being treated in a secure mental health hospital for depression and post-traumatic stress disorder so he could be extradited.
His lawyers wanted proceedings to be halted for a year to give him time to recover.
But the judge said 1 July is the date on which proceedings should continue.
On Thursday both teams will discuss if proceedings can continue properly on 1 July.
