A college student in India was allegedly beaten to death by his brother and two cousins for misbehaving with a 15-year-old girl, also his cousin, at Kilkathirpur village near Kancheepuram on Friday night.
Police said U Gnana Kumar, 20, a second year BSc Zoology student of a private college, was alone at home on Friday night and had too much to drink. In a drunken stupor, he asked his uncle's daughter, who lived nearby, to come to the backyard of his house, saying he wanted to discuss something important with her. She went there, as it was her cousin who was calling her, but Gnana Kumar pulled her hand and tried to misbehave with her. While trying to escape from his clutches, she fell down and suffered injuries. Police said Gnana Kumar even tried to gag her as she started screaming for help.
The women folk and other neighbours rushed to Gnana Kumar's house on hearing the commotion and alerted the girl's brothers Ramkumar, 22, and Premkumar, 20. When they learnt about the incident, they came there and began thrashing Gnana Kumar. Meanwhile, Gnana Kumar's elder brother Dinesh Kumar, 22, came home and was told about the incident. Enraged by his brother's act, Dinesh Kumar joined the others in beating him up.
When Gnana Kumar collapsed, the three rushed him to the Kancheepuram Government Hospital, where he was declared "brought dead." Sensing trouble, the three fled, leaving Gnana Kumar's body at the hospital.
The hospital alerted police, who formed special teams and nabbed Ramkumar and Premkumar from a hideout. Police are on the lookout for Dinesh Kumar. Gnana Kumar's body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
