A third-grade girl was sexually abused by fellow classmates on school property — and authorities did nothing to stop it, the alleged victim's mother told the Daily News.
The 9-year-old student, whose name is being withheld, was subjected to continous assault in the classroom and during lunchtime at Public School 194 in Harlem.
Her mother is planning to sue the Education Department for not acting to stop the inappropriate behavior, which happened during the 2009-10 school year.
"Why didn't anybody (from the school) give me a call?" she asked. "My daughter was all messed up, crying. She didn't want to go to school."
She approached the principal, Charyn Koppelson, who said she was unaware of the incident and didn't file a report or punish the students.
Principal Charyn Koppelson did not act on reports of a third-grader being abused.
It wasn't the first time that Koppelson failed to alert authorities about troubling events.
According to agency records, Koppelson was disciplined in 2011 for not filing a report when Emergency Medical Services was called for a student.
She also received a letter of reprimand for failing to notify her supervisors about an arrest in 2008 for driving while intoxicated.
The 25-year department veteran was removed from the school in January 2012 and assigned to an administrator rotation pool. She earns $105,975 a year.
The victim's mother said Koppelson dismissed the safety risk posed by the main perpetrator.
"She said, 'He's just a kid,' " the mom, 47, recounted. "(The incidents) were never placed in the system at all."
The sixth-grader was recently classified as a special-needs student because she can't focus on her work, her mother said.
"It's still a struggle," the dejected mom said. "Her grades, her confidence is down."
