Maphuti Magongoa, 8, a grade 4 pupil at Mmushi Primary School in Kgomoschool Village, SA, was badly injured when a toilet wall fell on him.
He died a few hours later in an ambulance.
Maphuti’s father Johannes, 49, told Daily Sun he was at home when the school teachers came to his house in the principal’s car and told him about the accident.
“If the department had done their work, this would never have happened,” he said.
“The school is supposed to be the second home for our children, but now my son is dead.”
He said the building is old and needs regular inspection.
Limpopo education spokesman Pat Kgomo said the department was shocked at the death of Maphuti.
“Departmental officials have already visited the school and family,’ Kgomo said.
“The infrastructure section has already looked at the toilet so it can be rebuilt.”
