Clothing firm Solid Gold Bomb, which was selling t-shirts on Amazon.co.uk with an array of offensive slogans including ‘keep calm and rape a lot’ and ‘keep calm and hit her’ have apologised for the ‘offensive’ items.
Amazon have confirmed that the t-shirts were no longer for sale online.
Both companies were bombarded with angry messages as a result, prompting Solid Gold Bomb to close its Twitter account.
In a statement the company said the slogans were ‘automatically generated using a scripted computer process’ and that they were doing their best ‘to correct the issues at hand’.
Apologising for the ‘ill feeling’ the t-shirts caused, the message on the Solid Gold Bomb website said: ‘We have been informed of the fact that we were selling an offensive t-shirt primarily in the UK. This has been immediately deleted as it was and had been automatically generated using a scripted computer process running against 100s of thousands of dictionary words.’
The company went on to insist that any offensive t-shirts still online are ‘certainly in the deletion queue’ and will be removed ‘as soon as the processing is complete’.
