Businessman Xiaoming Li, 38, was formally charged with assault of a former worker who had come to collect his terminal benefits.
The gun-totting businessman allegedly assaulted the worker with a broom stick and then fired three shots in the air before chasing him away.
Prosecutor Ms Francisca Mukumbiri alleges that on February 23 this year at about 3pm the complainant Lloyd Joel went to collect his terminal benefits from Li after being fired from employment under unclear circumstances.
Li allegedly assaulted Joel with a broom stick until it broke but Joel remained in the shop.
Upon realising that Joel was refusing to leave Li allegedly took his Raven Phoenix pistol from the bag he had left on the counter before charging towards Joel and fired three shots in the air.
Joel made a report to one Sergeant Manunure who recovered the pistol with a magazine of five rounds.
He also picked one spent cartridge.
