When Barney the labrador began looking under the weather no one could have guessed it was a result of eating 109 stones from a nearby beach in Kent.
The next day Barney began acting sluggish and was taken to the vet by Mrs Woollard.
The vet found 79 pebbles in Barney's stomach and Mrs Woollard found 30 more in Barney's basket when she returned home.
They had already passed through the dog's system.
"When the vet showed us the X-ray I was gobsmacked. You could see lots of the pebbles still in his stomach and intestine," said Mrs Woollard.
She said her husband, even heard a rattling sound when he had passed his hand her stomach to see what was wrong.
However, the pair could not have guessed Barney's problem had stemmed from a walk on the beach the previous day.
"Andrew and I were chatting and watching Barney, but we didn’t see him do anything out of the ordinary. He was racing along enjoying himself.
Barney had a successful operation to remove the stones and made a fully recovery. He has returned to live with the Woollards.
However he had to have a second operation on his teeth as the stones had damaged them.
