Stanley Madikane is alleged to have killed his wife by
cutting off her head with a saw and was caught with her head in a plastic bag.
“We’re shocked by this terrible murder,” said Phumeza, Stanley's niece.
“My uncle doesn’t drink or take drugs. We didn’t expect anything like this. We’re very unhappy.”
She said the children are with social workers and receiving trauma counselling.
The funeral will take place in Eastern Cape over the weekend.
“We want the house to be clean but won’t live here,” Phumeza said. “We’re going to stay with relatives in Etwatwa.”
Madikane (41), the man charged with murdering his wife for muthi reasons, appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The murder took place in Daveyton on Monday night and it’s alleged that after cutting off her head using a saw and, axe and knives, Stanley dug a shallow grave where he was planning to bury the headless body.
Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele has called for harsh action.
“This is one of the most barbaric and sick incidents I’ve ever been exposed to in my life.“What’s this world coming to, when you have people who can do such crazy things against another human being – especially the person who has given you your children?” Gungubele asked.
Constable Oupa Magwaza said the case was postponed to 19 February. He said the suspect was taken to Modderbee prison.
