A 20-year-old man from Baptist Children's Home in Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly stealing a CZ pistol belonging to a manager of MBCA in the city.
The police spokesperson for Matabeleland North, Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese, confirmed the arrest of Trustworthy Kondo for house breaking and theft.
She said circumstances leading to his arrest were that on 22 June, Kondo boarded a Victoria Falls-bound train from Bulawayo.
"Inside the train, Kondo allegedly stole a Sony Erickson cellphone, 300 Kwacha and $1 from Angela Manyama of Victoria Falls. Manyama quickly discovered that her phone and money had been stolen and alerted the NRZ security officers and she identified Kondo as the suspect," said Asst Insp Makonese.
She said the NRZ security officers reported the matter to police in Hwange who took Kondo to the police station.
"At the station Kondo was searched leading to the discovery of the CZ pistol. Further investigation indicated that the gun had been stolen from a Mr Nkululeko Masuku of 18381, East Court, Paddonhurst, Bulawayo and is a manager at MBCA in the city," said Asst Insp Makonese.
She said it was further discovered that Mr Masuku had already reported that his gun was stolen to police in Bulawayo and the matter was being handled by the CID.
"Kondo told the police that he broke into Mr Masuku's house and stole the firearm and some groceries and on the same day, boarded a Victoria Falls-bound train," said Asst Insp Makonese.
