Prominent music promoter and businesswoman, Mai Gumbo, has denied reports that she hired a self styled exorcist (tsikamutanda) at her house who then found an amputated human hand in a refrigerator.
The exorcist, only identified as Dhumba, is said to have conducted a cleansing ritual at Mai Gumbo's homestead last week amid reports of low business. However, the outspoken promontr denied ever inviting tsikamutanda. But her daughter Modester SPILLED the beans!
Modester CONFIRMED that her mother invited tsikamutanda and said: "Yes, my mother invited Dhumba after the business was experiencing some problems. When Dhumba came in the early hours of the morning, he ordered us to buy salt which he mixed with tap water and sprinkled it around the house," said Modester.
Salt in not not only used to add taste to food but is also believed to ward off evil spirits. Modester, however, denied that Dhumba took a hand out of their freezer.
"No, he didn't take out anything during the cleansing process. He just said that there were some people who were SENDING EVIL SPIRITS to disturb the good flow of the business. My mother is not around, she has gone to order some beer for our bottle store," Modester said.
News was rife in the small farming community that Dhumba had cleansed Mai Gumbo's house. One vendor who operates at the shops said: "I heard that he came early in the morning and removed the hand."
Dhumba is believed to have come from CHIPINGE with some claiming that he came from Rusape.
"You should go into the estates and you will hear it all. There are some women who were caught with their late husbands' PRIVATE PARTS, which they use DURING THE NIGHT! A lot of things were unearthed at the estates and Dhumba has gone to Yomba where he is conducting cleansing ceremonies," a shop attendant said.
We could not proceed to Yomba as Dhumba was said to have gone to Rusape to attend his brother's funeral.
"Ndakaona mashura arikuitwa naDhumba nemaziso angu. Akasvika pane akaromba anongovaudza vanhu vacho kuti vaburitse zvinhu zvazvo. (I witnessed Dhumba's miracles in person. Whenever he comes across anyone who practices evil works, he just orders the person to confess and unearth his stuff). Those who refuse face the consequences. They spend the night battling with their things and they seek refuge at Dhumba's temporary place of residence. Dhumba has a walking stick that he gives to the person who admits to have things and that person leads everyone to their house. The stick is like a magnet, it just points and moves towards the things," an elderly woman who claimed to have seen the works of Dhumba said.
Even the police have heard about Dhumba's exploits. "Yes, there is one guy called Dhumba here. We heard what he is doing. We cannot stop him because no one has complained to us that he is doing anything wrong," a police detail who refused to be named said.
Another woman from the area said: "There are some rich people who are using evil spirits to accumulate wealth. There is someone in Yomba who had so many cows. Do you know what Dhumba said? He said there are only five real cows among the herd, the rest are baboons. Some were found with 200 hoes. They bewitch people in the night. The bewitched people work in their field using the hoes and when they wake up, they will be feeling so tired."
