Tony Blair's rep denies rumours of affair with Rupert Murdoch's wife

After a flurry of media speculation, the spokesman for Tony Blair has denied allegations that the former British prime minister has had a marriage-ending affair with Rupert Murdoch's third wife, Wendi Deng.
Blair's rep shot down the frenzied rumours, telling the Hollywood Reporter: "If you are asking if they are having an affair, the answer is no."
The spokesman later clarified to outlet that the two never had an affair, and added that Blair would not be making a public statement on the matter.
The inquest was likely made after Gawker's cheeky post, entitled "People are Googling 'Wendi Deng Tony Blair.'" As the author noted: "Presumably, they're just trying to look up a column Murdoch biographer Michael Wolff wrote last year in the Guardian, headlined "Tony Blair and the Murdochs: A Family Affair."
A representative for Blair later confirmed to the Daily News: "There is not and has never been an affair." They declined to comment when asked if Blair had reached out to either Murdoch or Deng concerning the impending divorce.
Murdoch's clan has remained tight-lipped over the mogul's split.
Robert Peston, a characteristically restrained and sensible business editor for the BBC, has added fuel to the rumor-mill fire, teasing the "jaw-dropping" reason behind the split.
"Am also told that undisclosed reasons for Murdoch divorcing (Wendi) Deng are jaw-dropping - & hate myself for wanting to know what they are," Peston tweeted Thursday.
The tweet added to the conjecture because Peston has close ties to Will Lewis, a New Corp. executive and key player in Murdoch's media empire, according to Murdoch biographer Michael Wolff.
"We can only speculate about what he might mean," Wolff said. "However, a year ago, she gave an interview to the New York Times suggesting that they were living independent lives."
These separate lives, the Times piece said, involved Deng taking the girls to piano lessons and walking red carpets while Murdoch dealt with the phone-hacking scandal in the U.K.
Regardless of the actual reason behind it, the divorce will not make a dent in Murdoch's financial empire because of the couple's prenuptial agreement. His failed marriage with Anna Torv cost him $1.2 billion in 1999.
When news of this third divorce broke, Peston admitted to being intrigued to learn the juicy details, despite his typical temperament.
