Bongani Nchang, a member of popular South African Afro-pop band Malaika, spoke to Drum Magazine about his depression and his new solo album 'My Life.'
Talking to DRUM for the first time since the failed love affair – after his mariage fell apart – Bongani says he's looking forward to starting afresh.
The roller-coaster ride started after his divorce from his wife Nthabiseng in 2010.
He found another woman who loved him but admits he was insecure and had "trust issues."
For two years media reports were filled with tales of a broken marriage, going broke and a war within his band.
But Bongani Nchang, part of Afro-pop duo Malaika, has bounced back with his first solo album, My Life.
Nchang says the album is about his life, but mostly his love life. "It's a transition between love gone right to love gone wrong and where I am now. Mostly, I'm talking about love in a personal experience, especially after my divorce," he says.
With regard to Malaika, he confirmed that the group has not broken up and is "still contractually bound".
