A treasurer of a burial society in Pumula suburb in Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly blowing up $13 000 belonging to the society, and falsely reporting to police that buglers had robbed her of the money.
Beatrice Sibanda, 48, made a report on February 13 that the two alleged robbers had broken in through her bathroom window and confronted her in her bedroom demanding the burial society money amounting to $13,238.
Police investigations related to the matter ruled out robbery, as alleged by Sibanda.
Sibanda was dragged to court by the Sibanye Burial Society president, Benita Sibanda of the same suburb after the police investigations.
The treasurer faces charges of theft and deliberately supplying false information to a public authority.
Sibanda was remanded in custody to today for a bail hearing.
