FOUR police officers allegedly arrested an accused person at his home around midnight, fatally assaulted him before dumping his body 50 metres away from his hut.
The five constables, Fidelis Gomba, Carlison Chinyowa, Ernest Chiororo and John Bungunye have since appeared before Chipinge
magistrate Makamera Waini for initial remand facing charges of murder as defined in Section 47 (Criminal Law and Cordification Reform Act Chapter 9.23).
It was the State's case led by prosecutor, Mr Witness Nyamundaya that the quartet teamed up and went to Bharika Mashava's home at a nearby Tsuro Farm intending to arrest him for alleged theft and assault cases.
The court heard that upon arrival, they identified themselves and ordered Mashava to come out of his pole and dagga hut to surrender himself.
The deceased is said to have taken about 20 minutes to come out, leaving his wife Phuresah Sithole and child inside.
However, the wife later followed her husband about five minutes after he had gone out, but neither her husband nor the four police officers were in sight.
She retired to bed.
Around 5am, Pheresah Sithole then came out only to discover her husband's body lying about 50 metres from their hut, facing downward.
The court was also told that the body was taken to Mutare Provincial Hospital for post mortem where the cause of death was established as head injuries which, however, need further investigation.
