THE owner of one of the house where the infamous 'x-rated' house parties involving Bulawayo's teens was hosted has distanced himself from activities at his property that fateful weekend, saying he was unawares of the intention of the youths who hired his Numbder 3A Montgomery Hillside house.
Teenage binge-drinking among Bulawayo's teens has reached its zenith with youths as young as 12-years-old engaging in sexual intercourse while intoxicated from alcohol they consume at the house parties they arrange over weekends.
Reporters traced and spoke to the Hillside house owner where one of the steamy parties took place and said he was told that the event was a 21stbirthday party and was not aware that a party for the under-aged children was on the cards on the fateful night.
"I did not know about the nature of the party until late that Saturday night, I usually hire that house for wedding and other day events and when those people who came to hire the place came, they told me that it was a party," said the owner of the property who requested not to be named for professional reasons.
He said after getting wind of the illicit activities taking place on his property, the owner went to the house and tried to stop the party but to no avail.
"Those youths were too rowdy and I failed to stop them, I later engaged the services of the police but also their effort was not fruitful," said the owner.
He said it was not his intention to facilitate the house party adding that: "Next time I will double check on venue seekers."
The house parties pitting teens are a hit in Bulawayo and are organised through a Facebook page called Simonsayz Makuwa and also via WhatsApp.
Most of these parties start in the afternoon and go up to the early hours of the morning.
The pick up point is at Haddon and Sly along Fife Street. Commuter omnibuses are usually hired to ferry these party goers to the venues.
One has to visit the city centre on a Saturday and witness the multitude of visibly drunk teenagers dressed in trendy clothes, milling around the pick up centre.
They will be carrying with them boxes of expensive alcoholic beverages such as Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniels, Viceroy, Jameson and ciders for consumption at these parties.
At these parties, teens exhibit wild behaviour and are seen drinking all sorts of alcoholic concoctions.
The young girls who were at the centre of some parties have a dance called "twerking," which is the latest dance craze which comprises of explicit gyrations.
Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Martin Moyo has said they have noted with concern the manner in which teens were conducting themselves saying they contribute to the high noise levels and other related disturbances in the central business district, especially on weekends. He says the matter has to be investigated.
Bulawayo residents have raised concerns over teenage binge-drinking among Bulawayo's teens saying it is contributing to moral decay. Residents also bemoaned the fact that teenage binging was contributing hugely to the city's moral decay, putting the blame on parents living in the diaspora who are splashing a lot of money on their children.
