Kevin Oliver, the white whindi who was struggling in Chitungwiza has reason to smile again
A family in Waterfalls has taken pity on him and has offered him a job as a gardener. He is ecstatic and cannot wait to begin his new job and turn his life around. Kevin hit the healines recently when he said he was having a tough time of it as a tout at Makoni shopping centre.
He said he was always hungry and slept in one of the kombis. He also said his fellow touts only gave him $2 despite all the hard work he puts into his work. Now all that is going to change.
Mrs Nelia Harapela said she was touched by Kevin’s plight that she decided to assist him. She said she sat down with her family and talked about how best to help the struggling hwindi.
“We agreed that we will give him a place to stay, food and pay him as our gardener,” she said.
Oliver was over the moon when the news was relayed to him. He said he was not a happy man when he was splashed all over the news with fellow touts laughing at him. But now he is having the last laugh.
“For two weeks after the stories appeared some hwindis were taunting me saying what did I get out that publicity. You are still suffering,” he said.
“I thank God for the help I am getting. I think in the end I will end up a Christian.”
Kevin said he will do everything in his power not to mess things up. That meant quitting drinking Zed all the time.
While some people were happy for Kevin they felt that a white man was still treated differently. They were many struggling hwindis out there who will never get help.
