CHAIRMAN of Mzilikazi Primary School Development Association has been disqualified from the committee over an alleged affair with a school teacher.
The man only identified as D Maphosa was elected into Mzilikazi School SDA executive in February this year but it later emerged that he was involved in a relationship with a school teacher who is domiciled at the school quarters.
According to The response to the Audit Investigation report; by the school head, a Mr R Dlamini, "D Maphosa who was elected into the S.D.A executive in February 2013 was chosen by other members to be the chairperson.
"The school authorities only learnt about his relationship with the teacher accommodated at the school quarters after he had been given the chairmanship position since he had just joined his wife from Midlands."
The School Head pointed out that as the authorities they regret that such an incident happened and said they have since disqualified Maphosa from the executive.
The headmaster's response to Audit Investigations Report also chronicles an embarrassing abuse of office by the last SDA committee which preceded Maphosa's committee. The committee is said to have prejudiced the school of more than $1 900.
The SDA committee led by local businessman Derick Mtungwazi was later removed from office by parents who passed a vote of no confidence.
". . . the school did not need an additional printer as it already had a functional one. We are very sorry that the Association prejudiced the school of $1000 without us noticing," reads the headmaster's response.
Although the former SDA chairman has paid back the $1000, Mzilikazi primary school head said the school has since put in place strategies that prevent the Association from withdrawing money without the knowledge of the Headmaster and the Deputy Headmaster.
An additional $720 and $197 were allegedly withdrawn by the SDA chairman for the purchasing of sports uniforms yet the later could not be accounted for. Mtungwazi said he has since paid back part of the money but pointed out that he feels it is not proper for a story to be published without a round table meeting with the school head to clarify 'certain' issues.
"Please don't write something that is going to backfire to you. The fact that I was chairman does not mean I am the one who misused the money," he said despite the fact that the Headmaster's report singled him and his treasurer.
