A Florida clerk's HTC smartphone stopped a bullet from entering his abdomen after a robber had fired at him, according to Winter Garden Police.
The attendant had been approached by the assailant, who showed him a revolver and told him to unlock a safe.
When he and a colleague were unable to open the secure storage unit, the robber fled and fired a shot as he did so.
The victim did not find out he had possibly cheated death until he removed the phone from his shirt pocket and saw the damage the bullet had done to his handset.
Police confirmed the petrol station worker had suffered minor injuries as a result of the shooting.
His phone wasn't in such great condition though, with the screen cracked by the bullet.
