8-year-old battles robber for mum's purse

An 8-year-old boy brazenly battled a purse snatcher to get his mother's money back because he didn't want the stolen cash to affect his sister's party.
Jose Alonso said he was sitting in the family's minivan with his sister at the Buzzy Bee Gas Station on South Post Oak in Houston when their mother stepped inside to pay about 7 a.m. on Thursday.
But the two children soon noticed a man standing near a red Ford Expedition parked next to them at the pump.
"We were just watching him, like what is he doing," Jose told KPRC-TV.
"We were just looking at him and I blink my eye, and I see him open the car door really fast," the boy said. "I told my sister, 'Just stay here, don't do anything.'"
Footage from a surveillance camera shows the man struggling with the boy before he breaks free with the bag and jumps into the parked SUV.
But Jose didn't want the man to get away. The little boy, wearing just one shoe, chased after the bandit — and managed to pull his mother's wallet out of the stolen bag.
"I was scared a little bit, but I told myself just go with it," the child recalled. "I ran as fast as I can. So I reached in and grabbed my mom's black wallet with her credit cards."
The suspect, described as slender and in his 20s, escaped only with the bag and a set of keys. He was still at large on Saturday.
Jose said the heroic act stemmed from concern that the money would hinder plans for his sister's party.
"My sister's party was coming up and I wanted to have her party, and I wanted my mom to get all of her stuff back," he said.
