A Florida grandmother tried to hire a hitman to kill her daughter-in-law, authorities said.

Diana Reaves Costarakis, 70, met twice with an undercover Jacksonville sheriff's deputy posing as a killer for hire to discuss the murder-for-hire plot, the sheriff said in a statement.

The angry senior was adamant the daughter-in-law had to be killed, authorities said.

"If you don't, I will," she reportedly told the detective.

They met in the parking lot of a a Home Depot in Jacksonville, and Costarakis brought money.

She gave the detective $500 on Wednesday and another $1,000 on Thursday toward the $5,000 bounty, authorities said.

Costarakis allegedly told the detective her daughter-in-law wore expensive jewelry, and he could take the jewels off her body when he was done. She said he could remove the diamonds, sell the untraceable jewels and use the money toward the total bill, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Detectives arrested Costarakis in the parking lot. She faces felony charges of criminal solicitation and criminal conspiracy.

The police report says Costarakis claimed her daughter-in-law was a drunk and a bad mother to her 6-year-old granddaughter.

She claimed Angela Costarakis was preparing to take the little girl and move in with a boyfriend in Denver.

Angela Costarakis said she was stunned to hear about the plot and her mother-in-law's accusations, which she denied.

"I am beyond sad, and it breaks my heart, because it messes up the family," Angela Costarakis told News 4. "I have compassion. I don't want to see anyone spend the rest of their life in jail. However, I am still just dealing with it. I just found out. I have not wrapped my head around it."

Angela Costarakis said she never knew her mother-in-law was upset with her. Just three weeks ago, the 5-foot-1 grandmother wrapped in a big hug and said she was glad they were friends, Angela Costarakis said.

"I guess if I was out of the way she could have her son and her granddaughter," Angela Costarakis told WJXX.

Authorities said the mother-in-law immediately asked for a lawyer after she was read her rights.

She was held without bail in Duval County Jail.
