A lamb bleated for help after it fell into a pit toilet and it cried day and night from Friday to Tuesday before the SPCA and three inspectors from Tshwane rescued it.
No one knows how the lamb had come to fall into the female teachers' toilet at the Zenzeleni Primary School in Kwa-Mhlanga, in Mpumalanga, SA.
SPCA inspector Andrew Kekana told Daily Sun: "Since it is our duty to protect animals, we had to make sure the lamb came out of the pit alive.
"It was a serious challenge for us because we had to fiddle through kaka with our hands, and inhale that horrible smell to get hold of the desperate animal.
"We couldn't just leave it in there because we knew it would die. The innocent animal is now safe and receiving good treatment at the SPCA.
"We will wait for its owner to come and claim it but he will have to pay the SPCA a fine.
"We will also educate the owner on how to take care of the animal," Andrew said.
